Distraction osteogenesis is a very effective method for prolongation of a hypo-plastic mandible. The authors present a report on the treatment of five children with this defectwhere a total of six distractions was made. The occlusion relations in these patients and theaesthetic appearance improved. With regard to the short period which has elapsed sincetreatment (maximum 1.5 years) these results must be considered preliminary.
