Overview
The author summarizes knowledge about cognitive dysfunctions in schizoph-renic disorders. Tests for measuring the individual components of cognitivedysfunctions and the influence exerted by typical and atypical neurolepticsare described. Cognitive dysfunction has great importance for the long-termprognosis and this should be considered in relation to the economic burdenof schizophrenia. The etiopathogenesis is not known, but the cause of cogni-tive dysfunction may be related to the alteration of connectivity in neuralcircuits involved in the disorder.
