Ethanolic extracts from Iresine herbstii Hook. (Amaranthaceae) show antioxidant activity. In the study of its constituents responsible for this activity, waxes, b-sitosterol, campesterol and 3’4’7-tri - hydroxy-6-metoxyflavone which contributes to the antioxidant effect were isolated from the aerial part of the plant. The substances were identified by spectral methods.
