Overview

Late diagnosis of pancreatic cancer leads to an unfavourable prognosis and therefore a high mortality. Imaging methods are used for diagnosis, but they are also a significant burden for the patient. Currently, studies are being conducted in the Czech Republic to screen at-risk individuals for pancreatic cancer using imaging methods. Research efforts aimed at introducing biomarkers for early cancer detection are primarily focused on genetic and immunochemical approaches. Another option is a lipidomic test based on a patented method developed by prof. Holčapek's group, which is based on the concentration differences of lipids in the blood plasma of healthy individuals and patients with pancreatic cancer. In order to evaluate clinical performance, a study will be conducted in the coming years by Lipidica, a.s. in cooperation with 14 clinical sites across the Czech Republic.
