ULTRASONOGRAPHY OF PROSTATE, SEMINAL VESSICLES AND URINARY BLADDER

Overview

Ultrasonography has become the most widely used imaging method in urological practice. The transabdominal ultrasonography provides a basic outline of pathological processes at the level of the urinary bladder and a rough prostate evaluation while transrectal ultrasonography provides an accurate evaluation of prostate volume, the exact location of carcinoma deposits and identification of invasion scope, especially outside the capsule, but is also used for targeted biopsy and brachytherapy in localised carcinoma deposits. Seminal vesicles and urinary bladder including the surrounding area can be examined well using the transrectal access, too.
