Overview
Drug therapy of thyroid carcinoma has been limited. Prolongation of the survival time is onlyexcerptional. The experience with chemotherapy is limited because of the small numberpatients, low effectivity of cytostatics and there are no controlled trials which could form thebasic for standard treatment. On the other hand systemic treatment is needed inmost patients, with anaplastic carcinoma particularly because most patients have distant metastases. Usingdoxorubicin, or combined chemotherapy based on doxorubicin and paclitaxel, may produce someimprovement in the results, especially when combined with radiotherapy.
Key words:
carcinoma of the thyroid gland - chemotherapy - chemoradiotherapy.
