Overview

The article brings an overview of the current classification, diagnosis, and management of diabetes in pregnancy. Treatment options are discussed in different types of diabetes mellitus, including diet, intensified insulin therapy and oral antidiabetic therapy. Separate sections are devoted to the risk profile in a pregnant woman and her fetus as well as the risks of drug therapy for the normal development of the fetus. The preconception care for pregnant women with diabetes is outlined and discussed here, as well.
