Overview
Hearing impairment is a frequent cause of visits to audiologist outpatient office. A careful anamnesis and detailed otology and audiology examination form the basis for establishment of diagnosis. Specific questions uncover circumstances causing most significant inconveniences. The series of questions is not identical in all cases and it is therefore impossible to quantify precisely the degree of patient’s problems and to compare the replies in individual patients suffering from hearing loss. The kind of shortage is assisted by the standardized questionnaire tool. The Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults questionnaire was created by Newman, Weinstein a Jacobson in order to quantify the hearing problems of the patient in emotional and social (situation) area of the individual life. The translation into the Czech language enables the application of a questionnaire tool suitable for supplementing anamnesis, physical and audiometric examination in patients with hearing deficiency. The questionnaire can be useful for increasing the level of the nursing and social care on the patients with hearing impairment. The document was translated by three specialists from the area of otorhinolaryngology and audiology with the assistance of a professional translator and native English speaker.
