Overview

Beta-hemolytic streptococci represent important pathogenic agent of bacterial inflammation of the pharynx. The role and share of beta hemolytic streptococci of serological group C in the origin of a severe human illness has been discussed in scientific literature. The authors retrospectively evaluated clinical manifestations of acute tonsillopharyngitis, where cultivation examination demonstrated beta hemolytic streptococci of serological group C. In the period of 34 months (from January 1st, 2004 till October 2nd, 2006) sore throat was the reason for microbiological examination of pharynx in 1193 patients. Cultivation examination demonstrated. The most frequent clinical symptoms and findings included reddening of mucosa (87.3), swallowing pains (68%) and enlargement of regional nodes (38.3). The antibiozic treatment was applied in 17 patients (36.1%). No patient suffered from local or general complications.

Key words:
acute tonsillopharyngitis, beta hemolytic streptococci of serological group C.
