Existují důkazy o důsledcích pití alkoholu a jiných drog na mozek dospívajících. Během dospívání docházík tělesným i duševním změnám a také k vytváření nových sítí mozkových buněk. I jen mírné poškození pamětia schopnosti učení alkoholem nebo drogami vede k horším studijním a později i pracovním výsledkům.
