Overview

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the extent to which manual wheelchair users meet specific leisure time physical activity guidelines and to examine their associations with sociodemographic factors. Methods: A total of 55 participants completed the Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire for People with Disabilities (LTPAQD-CZ), assessing leisure-time physical activity during the previous 7 days. Leisure time physical activity was evaluated according to specific guidelines for individuals with spinal cord injury, including at least 20 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic activity twice per week and strength training twice per week. Results: Overall, 33% of participants met the specific leisure time physical activity guidelines. Statistically significant differences were found between individuals who were independent in transportation and those requiring assistance (p < 0.01), as well as between smokers and non-smokers (p = 0.04), in favour of participants who were independent in transportation and non-smokers. Conclusions: The results indicate persistently insufficient levels of leisure time physical activity among manual wheelchair users and highlight the need for targeted interventions. The validated LTPAQ-D-CZ questionnaire represents a suitable tool for assessing physical activity in this population.
