Overview

Background: The Society of General Medicine of the Czech Medical Association periodically monitors citizens’opinions on selected aspects of healthcare and healthy lifestyle. This publication follows on from previous survey results conducted between 2015 and 2024.

Objectives and methodology: The aim of the research was to determine the opinions of citizens on selected aspects of the work of general practitioners (GPs) and on the healthcare system and their role in it. The research was conducted in November 2025 and was designed as a sociological study. The field survey was conducted using a standardised controlled interview technique between an interviewer and a respondent (face-to-face). Data collection was carried out by 220 professional interviewers from the INRES Agency throughout the Czech Republic. Visual and logical checks, coding and data entry, tabulation, and interpretation of results were carried out by INRES Agency staff. Statistical processing of the data was performed using the SASD 1.5.8 program (Statistical Analysis of Social Data). The data were obtained from a sample of 1,805 individuals selected by quota sampling. The sample is representative of the population of the Czech Republic aged 15 and over

Results: In most cases, Czech citizens are satisfied with the care and time devoted to them by their general practitioner during their visit; only a small proportion (7.6%) have a negative opinion. Most citizens are also satisfied with the work of nurses in their general practitioner’s office. Partial or complete dissatisfaction in this regard was expressed by 4.9% of respondents. This corresponds to the findings of the international PaRIS project (17 countries), in which over 90% of citizens in the Czech Republic reported satisfaction. It was also found that 71.2% of citizens have had their medicines substituted in pharmacies, but 23% of citizens do not receive the relevant information about the reason for the substitution. Dietary supplements are offered to 72.7% of citizens, but 71.1% have experienced an insufficient number of packages of prescribed medication covered by health insurance. Only 26.8% of citizens insist on receiving their medications at pharmacies, but 50.7% would welcome receiving some medications at their GP’s office. Only 3.4% of citizens would get vaccinated at pharmacies, with the majority (82.8%) preferring to get vaccinated by doctors, either by their GP (57.5%) or at a vaccination centre (25.3%). As for preventive check-ups, only 8.6% would have them at a pharmacy, and only 5.5% would disclose information about their health to a pharmacist. The findings of the survey will be used in the reform of primary care in the Czech Republic.
