Overview
In the Czech Republic a new system of electronic sick notes has been introduced on the first January 2020. The system is used for communication among the doctor, the patient, his/her employer and the Czech social insurance fund. Electronic communication is provided using a unique system operated by the Czech social insurance fund. The doctors insert the initiation, continuation and termination of temporary incapacity for work and related information in the system using the portal of the Czech social insurance fund or via health information system (software in healthcare facilities). For the identification and authorisation of the doctor the personal certificate already issued for electronic drug prescription can be used.
The present article describes the main principles of dealing with electronic sickness notes. The data form the first two month of using the system is presented. In the discussion the article introduces the main benefits of the system for healthcare as well as the complications in the implementation of electronic sickness notes.
