Overview

This study explores intervention options for adolescents with atypical (paraphilic) sexual preferences using the Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA) method. The primary aim was to identify available intervention approaches, their specific objectives, observed effects, and factors influencing overall effectiveness. REA findings suggest that while a broad range of interventions exists, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) targeting problematic behavior combined with libido-suppressing drugs is the most commonly utilized approach. Unfortunately, due to ethical and methodological constraints in researching this vulnerable and hard-to-reach population, evaluating the effectiveness of these interventions remains challenging. There is a clear need to develop evidence-based intervention programs, especially preventive ones that would be accessible to younger adolescents. Such programs should address individual needs while also integrating the needs of the family system.
