Preserflo MicroShunt –⁠ A Modern Microinvasive Approach in the Surgical Treatment of Glaucoma. A Review

Overview

Preserflo MicroShunt (Santen Pharmaceutical, Osaka, Japan) is a new drainage implant designed for controlling intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma in cases where conservative therapy has failed. The implant, made of biocompatible SIBS material, drains aqueous humor from the anterior chamber to the sub-Tenon’s space, ensuring the long-term reduction of IOP. This review article summarizes the available clinical and experimental data on the Preserflo MicroShunt, compares its efficacy and safety to traditional trabeculectomy, and defines its role within the current glaucoma surgery algorithm.
