Duo-Bonharen in a Comparative Study

In the 1995-2000 period, data of interest concerning preoperative and postoperativeintraocular pressure (IOP) and the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in thegroup of eyes in which the brand name methylcellulose - Adatocel, Ocucoat,Metocel - (n=378) and Viscoat (n=526) was used during the surgery, were statisticallyevaluated. They were compared to those results obtained from the prospectiveclinical study performed in 2001-2002 (n=275) by using the new viscoelasticmaterial Duo-Bonharen, which is the Czech product, manufactured on the basisof the hyaluronic acid. All groups were evaluated in a retrospective manner.In the comparative study, statistically significant differences in functional resultsof cataract surgery in favor of Duo-Bonharen were demonstrated. The cohesivetype of the substance used tends to decrease the IOP, the dispersivematerials tendto increase the IOP.
