Innovation in the determination and verification of reference intervals

Overview

Our minireview deals with direct and indirect methods for estimation of reference intervals. It is based on some significant publications about multicentric studies makes mainly in frame of IFCC-C-RIDL activities. Indirect methods are presented as new generation these methods based on digitalization progress. Necessity of harmonization of preanalytical factors and metrological traceability to creating valid reference intervals is emphasized. Commonly accepted method for verification of reference intervals is also introduced. Problems of partition of reference intervals, namely in pediatry, are also part of communication. The aim of communication is to increase information level for routine clinical laboratories.
