Overview
The CAROLINA Study confirmed the long-term CV safety profile of linagliptin relative to glimepirid in patients with early T2DM at increased CV risk. To ensure optimal CV benefit for patients with T2DM and CV disease, contemporary guidelienes prefer that SGL2 inhibitors or GLP-1 analogs with proven CV benefit be added to metformin, or drugs with proved cardiovascular safety such as DPP-4 inhibitors.
