Overview

Right ventricular infarction occurs in about one half of patients afflicted by acute inferior wall myocardial infarction. The course is asymptomatic in part of them but up to half of patients signs of right ventricle dysfunction with haemodynamic malfunction and serious clinical symptoms are present. In contrast to plain inferior wall myocardial infarction patients with right ventricle infarction represent a subgroup with increased risk of hospital morbidity and mortality. For early and accurate diagnosis enabling to select proper management and adequate therapeutic algorithm that somewhat differs from obvious therapy in acute myocardial infarction familiarity with the entity is important, physical examination and ECG including right precordial leads is usually sufficient to confirm the suspicion.

Keywords:
right ventricular infarction - inferior wall acute myocardial infarction - right ventricle dysfunction – hypotension - cardiogenic shock - high degree atrioventricular block
