Multiple sclerosis (MS) remains a daunting adversary for most patients. This disease, which affects the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve, gradually damages the protective myelin sheath of neurons and, in many patients, leads to chronic neurological impairment. Although modern medications can slow the progression, a causal treatment is still lacking. One of the most promising avenues of the past decade is stem cell research —⁠ an approach considered experimental but opening the door to new, yet unexplored therapeutic possibilities.

News Selecting from the Red Book CHS: What's New in This Year's Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Treatment of CLL?

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common lymphoid malignancy in adults in Europe and North America. However, this field is experiencing very dynamic developments, both in terms of diagnosis and therapy. The biggest changes have occurred in treatment regimens, and recommendations for the therapy of relapsed or refractory CLL have also changed. Innovations have also emerged in prognostic examinations. As part of the update to the 'Red Book' by the Czech Hematological Society ČLS JEP (CHS), fresh recommendations concerning this disease were published in October 2023.

Dry eye syndrome, the most common diagnosis in outpatient ophthalmology practice, is a multifactorial disease with varying severity of symptoms. It reduces the quality of life and can also affect the patient's visual functions. Therapy is individualized according to the primary trigger of the disease and aims to restore the homeostasis of the ocular surface and tear film. Due to the rapid pace of modernization associated with numerous extrinsic factors contributing to the development of dry eye syndrome, its incidence is rising, as well as the number of topical therapeutic options.
