The etiology of pneumonia involves a wide range of pathogens, and distinguishing between bacterial and viral pneumonia is often not easy. In clinical practice, patients with viral pneumonia are frequently prescribed antibiotic treatment, which is not only ineffective but can also contribute to antibiotic resistance.
