News Longer survival without liver transplant in patients with PBC treated with OCA?
Obeticholic acid (OCA) is a second-line treatment for patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) who have an inadequate response to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) or intolerance to it. The study presented below, the results of which were recently published, examined the effectiveness of OCA in reducing cholestatic enzymes as well as the length of survival without liver transplant in patients with PBC.Source: Primary Biliary Cholangitis 20. 3. 2023News Interaction of the 'Big Five' Helps Predict Depression
Experts refer to the 'Big Five' as a personality model that encompasses the following five dimensions: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Can this model be helpful in diagnosing depression?Source: Depression and Anxiety 5. 10. 2020News Update of International Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hereditary Angioedema from 2021
The aim of the 2021 update of the recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary angioedema (HAE) is to help doctors answer important clinical questions: How to diagnose HAE? When and what prophylactic treatment to administer? What are the treatment goals? How do treatment of children and pregnant women differ? How to monitor disease activity, its impact, and control?Source: Hereditary Angioedema 18. 5. 2022News The Potential of Vinpocetine in the Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases
Vinpocetine is a nootropic indicated for the symptomatic treatment of cerebral ischemic hypoperfusion, vascular dementia, and reducing the psychological and neurological consequences of cerebral blood supply disorders. Due to its excellent safety profile, tolerance, and complex mechanism of action, it is currently being studied in experimental models of various disorders such as obesity and cardiovascular (CV) diseases including atherosclerosis, neointimal hyperplasia, vasoconstriction, pathological heart remodeling, and ischemic stroke (iCMP). We present an overview of the research findings on vinpocetine in CV diseases.Source: Pain Management 29. 5. 2024Články časopisu Czech Society of Hepatology guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of acute porphyrias

Patients undergoing cardiac surgery with the use of cardiopulmonary bypass are at risk of up to a 40% reduction in plasma fibrinogen levels, with subsequent risk of perioperative bleeding. Children undergoing surgery for congenital heart defects are even more sensitive to the reduction in fibrinogen. What are the possible solutions, and is any one of them significantly better?Source: Life-threatening Bleeding 7. 7. 2022News Expression of PD-L1 as a Predictive Biomarker for Therapy Selection in mRCC

In recent years, evidence has emerged of a higher prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). GERD symptoms are more common in them, especially in patients with severe COPD and frequent exacerbations. Why is this, and what direct links can be traced between the two diseases?Source: Treatment of Asthma and COPD 1. 9. 2020News What affects the elimination of bisoprolol in diabetics and patients with acute coronary syndrome?
Beta-blockers are widely used to reduce cardiovascular (CV) risk in a number of diseases. However, information about the pharmacokinetics of these drugs is still far from complete. Two studies focused on the population pharmacokinetics (PopPK) of bisoprolol in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) and ischemic heart disease (IHD), and we summarize their conclusions.Source: Cardiovascular Continuum 16. 9. 2022News Impact of Vitamin D Deficiency on Inflammatory Cytokine Concentrations in Patients with Diabetic Foot Syndrome
Vitamin D deficiency is relatively common in the population. Vitamin D plays an important role, among other things, in the functioning of the immune system. The aim of the presented study was to determine whether there is a connection between vitamin D levels and the profile of inflammatory cytokines in patients with wound infections in the context of diabetic foot syndrome.Source: Wound Healing 18. 6. 2020News 10 Warning Signs of Primary and Secondary Immunodeficiencies
The Jeffrey Modell Foundation (JMF) proposed 10 warning signs of primary immunodeficiencies (PID).
