We summarize the results of a clinical study on the effect of probiotics containing Limosilactobacillus reuteri on the improvement of gingivitis in patients with diabetes. It has been proven that the supplementary administration of L. reuteri statistically significantly improves gum health and helps to suppress gingival inflammation.

News Levodropropizine –⁠ a non-codeine antitussive with minimal side effects, contraindications, and drug interactions

For symptomatic treatment of dry, irritating, and exhausting cough, both codeine and non-codeine antitussives can be used. One of the non-codeine antitussives is levodropropizine. Its antitussive effect is comparable to centrally acting codeine antitussives, but with a significantly lower incidence of side effects. Compared to codeine, it has a much narrower range of contraindications, and no interactions with benzodiazepines or drugs used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases have been observed.

News About Sartans: An Overview with Consideration of Their Position in the Current Coronavirus Situation

Sartans, or AT1 receptor blockers for angiotensin II (ARBs), are among the first-line antihypertensives, along with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi). These are well-tested drugs with a good safety profile. We offer a brief overview of the position of sartans in the current therapeutic strategy, including comments on their possible association with COVID-19, based on the state of knowledge as of early May 2020.

News Previous Treatment of Osteoporosis May Affect the Efficacy of Romosozumab

A study conducted by a team of authors from several clinical sites in Japan shows that the type and duration of previous osteoporosis treatment just before starting romosozumab affects its therapeutic effect. Romosozumab, as an antibody targeting sclerostin, stimulates bone formation and suppresses bone resorption. The authors of the study investigated whether the efficacy of 12-month treatment with romosozumab depends on the duration of prior treatment with teriparatide, denosumab, or oral bisphosphonates.

News Teriflunomide in the Treatment of RRMS: The Best Working Drug Is the One That the Patient Actually Takes

Teriflunomide is an oral disease-modifying drug (DMD) used in the therapy of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The authors of the cited American study assessed adherence to this treatment and subsequently the effect of adherence on the occurrence of RRMS relapses and the utilization of healthcare services during the first year following the initial prescription of teriflunomide.

News Does olaparib improve overall survival in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer and BRCA mutation?

Olaparib, a poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) enzyme inhibitor, in tablet form is indicated, among other things, for the maintenance treatment of adult patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent high-grade epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer who respond (complete or partial response) to platinum-based chemotherapy. Its efficacy in this indication in terms of prolonging progression-free survival and overall survival was addressed by the phase III study presented below.

News Noonan's Syndrome –⁠ History and Present

The genetically determined syndrome linking congenital heart defect with a typical facial phenotype is named after Jacqueline Noonan, a pediatric cardiologist who practiced in the second half of the 20th century. She was the first to recognize and describe it. In the following text, we will briefly introduce it and discuss the circumstances of its discovery.
