News Prostate Health Index and its Possible Use in Clinical Practice

With the increasing incidence of prostate cancer, the effort to improve its diagnostics is also growing. The exclusively used and practice-proven prostate-specific antigen (PSA) continues to play an indispensable role in identifying at-risk patients, but some of its isoforms can also provide important information for deciding the patient's further fate. News Maintenance Therapy of a Female Patient with AML After Intense Chemotherapy –⁠ Case Study

The following case study presents the case of a female patient with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who experienced life-threatening complications after the second consolidation chemotherapy, rendering her incapable of undergoing further intense therapy or allogeneic HSCT. In this situation, maintenance therapy with oral azacitidine proved beneficial –⁠ this modality, due to its good tolerance, can be used as a bridge until allo-HSCT can be performed in patients in poor clinical condition.

News Prediction of Cancer Aggressiveness: Prostate Health Index (PHI) as a Promising Future Marker

The Prostate Health Index (PHI) is a diagnostic blood test that combines the levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), free PSA (fPSA), and the isoform [-2]proPSA (p2PSA). Its use in prostate cancer diagnostics can reduce the number of unnecessary prostate biopsies compared to determining PSA alone. A recently published Czech study assessed the utility of PHI in evaluating the aggressiveness of prostate cancer. The study compared PHI values with the results of preoperative biopsy and postoperative prostate histology in men indicated for radical prostatectomy.
