Overview

Arthroscopy plays a significant role in nowadays diagnostics, particularly in treatment of numerous joint disorders, esp. in the field of knee joint. Originally pure diagnostics is more and more often replaced by surgery.

The development of experience with this technique and the current technical development itself enables that the method originally used exclusively for adult patients, nowadays is more and more successfully used in paediatric orthopaedics as well, even in anatomically small joints. The overview article based on our own knee arthroscopy experience in children and adolescents, distinctly describes special characteristics of such techniques in children and adolescents, and gives an overview of the most frequent indications.

Apart from some specifities in arthroscopy indication, given by particular age, it is necessary to be aware of two basic differences we come across in arthroscopy of this age: lesser joint parameters and presence of growing up physis the most frequent joint arthroscopy in children and adolescents, as well as in adult patients, is knee arthroscopy.

KEY WORDS:
knee arthroscopy, child, adolescent.
