Overview

Testing the patient´s condition before and after therapy is an essential part of evaluation of theeffectiveness of therapy in remedial physiotherapy. In an investigated group of 127 patients aftera cerebrovascular attack (CVA) treated in 1997 – 2001 at the in-patient department of the RehabilitationClinic of the Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové the authors assessed using the FunctionalIndependence Measure (FIM) the extent of altered disability after treatment. The paired t-test proveda highly significant difference between the baseline and final examination. Regression analysisrevealed that the extent of change after treatment is associated with the baseline value of the FIMscore. Testing the extent of disability of patients proves the importance of rehabilitation treatment ofpatients after CVA.
