Overview

The paper presents a summary of recent data on type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus in pregnancy, obtained from the current medical literature. Changes to the metabolism of carbohydrates and fat during pregnancy, classification of diabetes, epidemiological data, maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity, contraindications of pregnancy, management from the perspective of diabetology, obstetrics and neonatology during preconception and perinatal periods are discussed.
