Overview
Objective:
Demonstration of benefit of Doppler examination of maximum flow rate in arteria cerebri media of foetus to the diagnostics of foetal anaemia in a risk patient.Name and address of the department:
Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University and Faculty Hospital Brno, Czech Republic.Case report:
36-year old patient with risk history of progression of isoimmunisation upon the invasive diagnostics of degree of foetal anaemia in previous pregnancy (mors neonati, hydrops). In the present pregnancy – with a high positive anti-erythrocyte antibodies titre – we pursued a monitoring of the disease stage through measurements of maximum flow rate in arteria cerebri media of foetus. With this approach, we succeeded to reach the 34th week of pregnancy with a good prognosis for the new-born child. Pregnancy was terminated on the ground of an indication of progressive hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia and poorly controlled gestation diabetes. Conclusion:
In the case described, we confirmed a high accuracy of Doppler ultrasound examination in the diagnostics of foetal anaemia taking an advantage of non-invasiveness of this technique.Key words:
isoimmunisation, foetal anaemia, Doppler, maximum flow rate, arteria cerebri media
