Overview

Introduction:

the diseases of supportive-locomotion apparatus in relation to work have been on the increase. It is therefore necessary to deal increasingly with physical load in addition to other factors of working environment. The study investigated the effects of local muscular load in workers employed in stitching car coating in responders in a company in the Zilina region by means of subjective and objective methods. In view of the complexity of the work the authors divided the study in two separate parts.

Groups and methods:

The cohort was composed of 62 workers (60 women and two men) in the occupation of stitcher in a factory for car coating production. A modified Nordic Questionnaire was used to obtain information about the incidence of difficulties associated with the supportive-locomotion apparatus, which was used for evaluation of the effects of local muscular load.

Results:

In a group of 62 employees, 27 respondents (43.5%) had to visit the doctor for problems in a certain part of the body. The most often affected part of the body proved to be the area of neck, hands, wrist and upper part of spine. Most visits to the doctor were recorded in relation to pains in the spine area and most rare were the causes related to the pain of elbows, hips, thighs and knees. The work includes repetitive flexion-extension movements of the wrist at high frequency. Almost 43% of the respondents mentioned insufficient quality of the working tools.

Conclusion:

Based on the obtained results it has become obvious that increased attention must be paid also to subjective evaluation of local muscular strength in the female stitchers of car coatings within the framework of a complex evaluation obtained by objective methods of measurement of the physical load at work. It will make possible to better specify preventive measures, which limit the incidence of diseases of the supportive-locomotion apparatus.
