Overview
Hyperbaric medicine is a medical specialty, which includes the issue of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diving medicine. The authors of the article devote attention mainly to hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Theoretical principles are mentioned as well as some important aspects and issues related to scientific evidence benefits of hyperbaric therapy for selected indications. They discussed the issue of availability of this therapy, particularly difficulties in ensuring systematic treatment of intensive care patients as well as practical aspects of treatment. Also the current situation in the training of medical personnel in the segment is mentioned. The use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is important in modern medicine, it brings better functional outcomes, reduce morbidity, mortality and alleviate neurological sequelae of many pathological conditions, especially accident and infectious etiology in the current financial cost-efficiency in the health system.
