Overview

The paper summarizes the implementation of goals of health protection at work by national strategies and documents as well as international documents of EU and World Health Organization. Public health offices focus on decreasing risks at work, increasing health protection at work with dangerous factors and prevention of the most frequent and serious diseases related to work. The positive trend in development of risks at work is evaluated in relation to risk factors, employment, life style risk factors and consequences on development of health status. The importance of participation at the process of development and adaptation of legislative directives in the SR and EU is stressed. The third list of exposure limits to chemical substances, preparation of new legislation on carcinogens applying mechanistic knowledge, preparation of new directives on prevention of musculoskeletal damages from work is under the process of development. The current challenge is the inclusion to international epidemiological studies on cancer diseases related to work and recently to research in the field of evaluation of exposure to nanoparticles. The importance of close, effective collaboration with clinical occupational medicine as well as other sectors of public health and distribution of specialized resources in relation to solving health at work is stressed.
