Effect of instrumental methods in preparing and application of 18F-FDG using KARl100 and RAD-INJECT for staff dosimetry

Overview

Aim: Preparing of radiopharmaceuticals, application of radiopharmaceuticals, taking care of patiens at the department of nuclear medicine mean everyday exposition to the radiation for staff. Because of higher energy of positron emitters, it is possible to expect higher dose of radiation for finger and the whole body dosimetry.

Methods: We are concerned with comparing of dosimetry worker groups before/after introduction of equipment for 18F-FDG preparing – KARl100 and equipment for 18F-FDG application to the patiens – RAD-INJECT in our study.

Results: We can see clear reduction in finger and the whole body dosimetry in a working group of physicians and reduction in finger and the whole body dosimetry in a working group of non-physicians in the results. Comparing of these two groups, reduction in a group of non-physicians is not so significant. We can see reduction in finger dosimetry and stagnation in the whole body dosimetry in a pharmaceutical staff group.

Conclusion: We can observe clear benefit of KARl100 for finger dosimetry of pharmaceutical staff and benefit of KARl100 and RAD-INJECT for whole body and finger dosimetry of physician and non-physician staff from our study.
