Analysis of 50 Cases Diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Overview

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, multifactorial inflammatory and often mutilating skin disease characterized by recurrent painful nodules, abscesses, and draining sinus tracts. It primarily affects the axillary, inframammary, inguinal, and anogenital areas, with an estimated global prevalence of up to 4%. In many cases, HS is diagnosed late, often at advanced stages. Although no curative treatment exists, early diagnosis and appropriately selected therapeutic options can improve the quality of life of affected patients. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 50 patients diagnosed with HS. The cohort was predominantly male (56%), with a mean age of 27.6 years and an average time to diagnosis of 5.37 years. Overweight or obesity was present in 80% of patients, and 68% were active smokers. The most common comorbidities were dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, and type II diabetes mellitus. These data were subsequently compared with previously published literature to identify potential differences and contribute to a better understanding of this disease.
