Overview

The deep vein thrombosis is a disease characterized by partial or complete obstruction of the deep veins with thrombus. Authors deal mainly with the distal type of deep thrombosis of lower limbs. Their long-term practice in the phlebological clinic results in the increasing number of referred patients with acute vein disorders which decreases the number of postthrombotic changes. Great attention is also paid to reveal the cause of thrombosis with respect to inherited or acquired hypercoagulability and malignancies. Authors reviewed data of patients hospitalized with the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis at the dermatovenerological department of the Hospital in ·umperk from the 1st January 2002 to the 31st December 2004 with respect to etiopathogenesis, risk and predictive factors.

Key words:
deep vein thrombosis – thromboembolism – thrombophilia – risk factors
