Overview
Psychodermatology involves many different types of conditions that lie between fields of psychiatry and dermatology. Most psychodermatological conditions can be classified into different categories: psychophysiological disorders, primary psychiatric disorders, secondary psychiatric disorders, and the use of psychotropic agents for purely dermatological indications. Psychosomatic aspects are part of psychodermatology based on the biopsychosocial model. International and interdisciplinary cooperation of dermatologists, psychiatrists and clinical psychologists interested in psychodermatology have developed a consensus on the care and management of psychodermatological disorders. It provides a background for using research in the field of ultrastructure of the skin, psychoneuro-endocrino-immulogy, psychopharmacology and psychotherapy and develops more comprehensive and humanistic approach to dermatology patients.
Key words:
psychodermatology – interdisciplinary cooperation – comprehensive dermatology therapy
