Pemphigus Herpetiformis-like Reaction in a Child

Overview

The case of 8 years old female with an acute bullous eruption on the trunk and limbs, formingbizarre rosette-like pattern is described. Results of clinical, histological and direct immunofluorescenceexaminations were suggestive for the diagnosis of pemphigus. The patient was treated withthe leukotriene antagonist montelukast for chronic asthmatic bronchitis started 5 months beforethe onset of skin eruption. The montelukast was withdrawn and the disease gradually subsided afteradministration of systemic corticosteroids and dapsone. Sporadic pemphigus is very rare in smallchildren. To our knowledge, there have been no previous case reports of pemphigus associated withmontelukast administration.
