Overview

The recent neuropsychological research has emphasized memory defi cit as one of a key area ofimpairment in schizophrenia. Evidence is accumulating that these impairments are predominantlyrelated to abnormalities in the prefrontal cortex and mediotemporal structures of the brain. Someauthors consider the memory dysfunction as a selective defi cit in patients with schizophrenia.Cognitive impairments, particularly information processing and working memory have proven to bestrongest predictors of overall social functioning and quality of life of patients with schizophrenia.
