Overview

In introductory remarks, similarities and differencies between juvenile and adult panic disorderswere described. The retrospective study included child and adolescent patients treated in ourdepartment for the diagnosis of panic disorder or agoraphobia with panic disorder in the years1998 - 2002. The sample consisted of 13 patients (8 boys, 5 girls) with a mean age of 16.2 ± 1.6 years.The article provides information about the dynamics of the diagnostic process, including detailsregarding psychopathology. Only in 3 cases (23.1%) psychiatrist was the primary contact physician,whereas in 10 cases (76.9%) it was a physician specialized in somatic care. Only 4 patients (30.8%)were referred to the department with a correct diagnosis. Prior to the beginning of the panic illness6 patients (46.1%) were abusing street drugs.
