Záměrem tohoto sdělení je ukázat současné možnosti racionálního příspěvku laboratorních metod v diagnostice, vyhledávání a péči o pacienty s demencemi, především Alzheimerovou chorobou (AD). Předpokládá se, že počty jedinců postižených těmito chorobami porostou a v r. 2050 budou dosahovat zhruba dvojnásobných hodnot oproti současnému stavu. Proto je nezbytné zabývat se hledáním optimálního řešení zajištění komplexní péče o takto postižené osoby, která by byla dostupná a ekonomicky akceptovatelná. Laboratorní diagnostika bude hrát v této oblasti bezpochyby významnou úlohu.
