Primary prevention in general practitioner surgeries

Overview
Primary prevention demonstrably and significantly contributes to quality of health and human life. With a responsible approach, the general practitioner has an active role to play in prevention, for it is the GP that leads his client/patient through the health care system throughout their whole life. The only break point in continuity of healthcare provision is the transfer from paediatric practitioner’s surgery to the general practitioner’s surgery. Primary prevention is aimed at those who are still healthy so, undeniably, their active participation is required. The situation is getting better from this point of view and we can see a more active attitude from individuals who care about their health. But not with such desired effects, for example in the incidence of lifestyle diseases. The research presented was conducted in a form of questionnaires and was aimed at management of workload in connection with primary prevention in the general practitioner’s surgery. This paper highlights selected results of research in primary care among GPs, their opinions on, and experience with, primary prevention.
