Overview

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation is a method of extracorporeal life support indicated for critical respiratory or circulatory failure. Replacing the function of the lungs and/or the heart provides conditions to overcome the critical phase of the illness. Implementing its use in neonates entirely changed the prognosis of many diseases and ECMO is currently an integral part of the neonatal critical care.
