Overview

Research and subsequent clinical application of neuroprotective strategies are important priorities of modern neonatology. Consistent antenatal monitoring of the fetus, proper management of premature birth, support of the postpartum transition and optimal postnatal care are part of neuroprotective care for extremely immature newborns. The elimination of complications that trigger ischemia and inflammation are important from the point of view of minimizing brain maturation disorders, especially white matter. Neurological monitoring and early diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders of extremely immature newborns after discharge improve the long-term prognosis and subsequent quality of life.
