Cílem práce je shrnout současné informace o vlivu křemene (SiO₂) na vývoj chronické obstrukční bronchopulmonální nemoci (CHOPN). Snahou je zdůvodnit začlenění CHOPN z expozice křemeni do seznamu nemocí z povolání, jehož novelizace se chystá. Autorka podává souhrn epidemiologických studií, které potvrzují roli SiO₂ v rozvoji chronické bronchitidy a CHOPN.
