Alternative ways of insulin application

Overview

The insulin pump treatment in patients with type 1 diabetes has a beneficial effect on improvement of their metabolic control and quality of life. The current pumps are reliable, small and light, and are becoming more and more sophisticated. Development in insulin pump technology simplifies the technical aspects of using this device. Implanted insulin pumps and tubeless patch pumps enhance patient´s comfort. Subcutaneous injection as the traditional insulin administration in the diabetes treatment is for many patients inconvenient and painful. Smart glucose- responsive insulin delivery systems could be the promising solutions.
