Overview

Gynecological issues such as itching, discharge, burning, or dryness are common reasons for seeking medical attention. However, with the wide availability of over-the-counter medications, self-treatment is becoming increasingly relevant. This review article summarizes the most frequent vaginal complaints – vaginal candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis, aerobic vaginitis, mucosal dryness, and genital herpes – and outlines treatment options available within the scope of pharmaceutical care. It highlights the pharmacist’s role in educating patients, recommending appropriate therapies, and identifying cases that require medical evaluation. The text also includes clear tables of non-prescription products, lifestyle recommendations, and supportive approaches such as probiotics and vaginal douching.
