Overview

This year will mark the 25th anniversary of the Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation, which was established with the primary, successfully accomplished, goal of setting up a build a non-givernmental registry of volunteer hematopoietic stem cell donors – the Czech National Marrow Donor Registry (CNMDR). This organization, based in Pilsen, consists of a network of 10 donor centres across the country and more than 40 recruitment centres. During its existence, it has become one of the largest registers in Central and Eastern Europe, the only one in the region and the fourth in the world. Since 2005, it has held full accreditation of the World Marrow Donors Association (WMDA) and has twice successfully defended this. At present, the database has over 73,000 patients with a median age of 33 years and the number of donations per donor ranks is among the most effective registries. During its existence, it was able to find donors for 1 471 patients (of which 637 were its own donors and the rest came from abroad). The significance of the CNDDR for the unrelated transplant program in the Czech Republic is illustrated by the fact that it annually facilitates almost 2/3 of all unrelated transplants performed in the Czech Republic.

Key words:
history of the CNMDR – actual parametres – result of the CNMDR – CNMDR in the global context
