Overview
The authors describe a case of woman examined for pigmented patches on buccal mucosa.
The skin biopsy and subsequent clinicopathological correlation lead to the diagnosis of Addison’s disease. Except for mucosal signs the patient presented with bronze colour of the entire skin surface with pronounced hyperpigmentation over joints and in papillary lines of palms. Full examination of the patient revaled elevated blood titres of ACTH and borderline titres of anti-adrenal antibodies. Endocrinologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of Addison’s disease due to autoimmune adrenalitis and substitution therapy with hydrocortisone was initiated.
