Pokyny pro autory a recenzenty - english

Czech-Slovak dermatology is a professional journal of the Czech and Slovak Dermatovenerological Society and the Czech Academy of Dermatovenerology. It publishes contributions related to dermatovenerological problems and the problems of related fields. Each manuscript is subject to evaluation by two independent referees. Their opinions are prerequisites for publication of the contribution or for revisions. The contributions may be sent in the following languages: Czech, Slovak or English.

The manuscript

should be sent in the ISO A4 format, with at least 25 mm margins, printed on one side of the paper only, double-spaced in all part of the text. One page contains 30 lines of 60 strokes (corresponding to the spacing 2 in the Word text editor – under the heading File, Properties, Selection, Statistical data shows the number of symbols with spaces, which should correspond to the number of 1,800 per page). The pages of the text are numbered consecutively, the number of the page is printed at the right upper or lower corner; the Title page is number 1.

The manuscript must be send in the electronic version (CD, e-mail: csderm@vfn.cz) + two copies of the printed text with an accompanying letter (for details see below).

Individual parts of the text itself should be introduced

always in the beginning of the next page in the following order:
  • 1. Title page;
  • 2. Summary and key words;
  • 3. Summary and key words in Czech (not necessary);
  • 4. The text of the contribution with possible Acknowledgements at the end;
  • 5. References (in alphabetical order, see bellow) followed by the address and contacts to the main author;
  • 6. Individual Tables with headings;
  • 7. Legends for Figures.
  • 8. Graphic documentation is provided in the original and one copy.
In the electronic graphic documentation it is suitable to add to the electronic medium (CD) two printed copies (sufficiently representative as well as preview informative copies of the Figures) for their possible sending to the reviewers, as it speeds up the review process.

1. Title page

The title page should include:
  • a) brief and informative title of the article
  • b) Surname and initial of the given name of all authors
  • c) Name of the institution – department where the work was done, Head of the institution with full title
  • d) Sources/support (grants, equipment, drugs)

Authorship

Only authors should be included who significantly contributed:
  • a) To the general outline and arrangement of the study, to analysis and interpretation of the findings or
  • b) To editing of the text or its revision and
  • c) Who agree with the final version presented for publication.
The authorship can be admitted only when all three conditions are fulfilled.

2. Summary and key words

The second page of the manuscript is assigned to the Summary, which should not exceed 150 words. It should
  • Specify purpose of the study (aim of the study)
  • Basic used methods (selection of observed individuals, species of experimental animals, methods of observation and analysis)
  • Main results, i.e. actual results with calculated statistical significance and
  • Conclusions, which came out of the results, pointing out what important or new came out of the study.
Under the summary, below the heading Kew Words, 3–10 words or short terms should be given to enable documentation classification of the work from the standpoint of the contents.

3. Czech summary

The following page is a copy of the summary (or its longer version), which includes the name of the work, aimed for translation into Czech language.

4. Text

It is recommended that the text be divided into the following parts:
  • “Introduction”,
  • “Methods”,
  • “Results” and
  • “Discussion”.
In longer contributions it is recommended to divide these parts, especially “Results” and “Discussion”, by subheadings for making presentation of the contents easier to follow. Articles of different nature, e.g. Editorials, Reviews, Case reports etc. require a different form of presentation.

Figures and tables must not be included in the text; these should be listed independently outside the text – the text should only include a quotation (Fig. ...) or (Tab. ...).
In writing in the Text Editor the lines should not be ended by the “Enter” key, which is only used to finish the paragraph.
Individual parts of the text should not be introduced by capital letters, e.g. DESCRIPTION OF THE CASE, but only in bold letters, e.g. Description of the case.

Introduction

  • It expresses the sense of the article, summarizes the causes of the study or observation.
  • It refers to literature, related to the topic of the study and should not present an extensive survey of literature.
  • Results or conclusions of the given contribution must not be presented here.

Methods

  • The authors should describe investigated subjects (a cohort of patients or experimental animals including control subjects), methods, equipment (giving name of the producer and the address in parentheses) and the procedures of examinations (described in sufficient detail to enable other authors to reproduce the study).
  • In case of known methods including statistical processing the reference to appropriate literature is sufficient, in less known methods, although published, it is appropriate to add a short description.
  • New or significantly modified methods should be described in more detail as well as reasons for their use (selection) and their limitations evaluated.
  • All drugs and chemicals used must be precisely identified including presentation of their generic name, dose and route of administration.

Ethical aspects

  • The names of patients, their initials or hospital (care, evidence) number are not presented, especially in any illustrating material.

Statistics

  • The used statistical methods should be described in such a way that the reader, having access to the original data, could verify the results.

Results

  • The authors should present the results in a logical procedure in the text, tables and illustrations.
  • The data from tables, illustrations should not be repeated in the text, only significant findings should be summarized.

Discussion

  • New and significant aspects of the study should be pointed out as well as conclusions drawn.
  • Data from the „Introductions“ and „Results“ should not be repeated.
  • Results of the study should be compared with those of the other authors as well as with aims of the study.
  • Do not refer to unfinished studies.
  • Present new hypothesis, whenever justified, but mark them as such.
  • You may include even recommendations for further research.

Acknowledgements

  • They should be presented at the end of the text.

5. References

  • Only real sources, i.e. publications referred to in the text or those of real significance may be cited. It is not possible to include publications on formal grounds.
  • The publications should be listed alphabetically.
  • References in the text, tables or description on figures should be listed by Arabic numerals in round parentheses.
  • The contact address of the first authors for sending the proofs, including e-mail address and Bank connection should be presented below the References

Example of correct forms of references:

printed monograph

  • SCHACHNER, AL., HANSEN, RC. Pediatric dermatology. Churchill Livingstone Inc. 2nd Ed. 1995, p. 742–744.

a contribution in monograph

  • STERLING JC. Virus infections. In: BURNS, T., COX, N. (Eds.) Rook’s textbook of dermatology. Blackwell Science, 7th Ed., 2004, p. 257–259.

periodic journals

  • RAHMAN, SA., SETOYAMA, M., KAWAHIRA, M. et al. Erythema multiforme associated with superficial fungal disease. Cutis, 1995, 55 (4), p. 249–251.

6. Tables

  • Table should not be inserted in the text!
  • Only reference in parentheses should be given in the text (Table No.…), but each Table must be printed on a separate folio (!), double-spaced.
  • The tables must be listed in the order given in the text. Each table must contain the heading and each column of the table as well.
  • Explanatory notes should be given below the table, not in the headings.
  • The abbreviations used must be explained.

7. Illustrations Legends

  • Legends should be written on a separate page. If symbols, arrows, numbers or letter are used in a Figure, these should be described in the legend.
  • For microphotographies describe the degree of magnification and method of staining.
  • The list of legends must be included in each copy of the manuscript.
  • The reference to tables and pictures should be given in the text and their positon on the page margin.

8. Illustrations

  • The illustrations should be sent three times (original + 2 copies) in complete sets.
In electronic graphic documentation (CD) it is useful to add two printed copies (sufficiently informative „Preview“ copies of illustrations as well).
  • Photography must be sharp, glossy, the letters, numerals and symbols must be sharp, lines should be straight and the letter large enough to permit reduction to be legible.
  • The title and text in detail belongs to the legend, not to the illustration itself.
  • Slide, photography, line drawings, in electronic form should be in the JPEG, TIFF, 300 dpi.
  • Each Figure must be sufficiently marked: number of the Figure, name of the first author and indication of orientation of the picture (by arrow oriented upward and located outside the picture or attached on a separate sheet to the back side).
  • The microphotography must include the scale, arrows and letters and other symbols must be contrast to the background.
  • The portrayed person must not be identifiable or his/her written Informed consent with publication must be enclosed.
  • Illustrations in the format TIFF or JPEG; graphs in the program MS Excel should be sent in independent files, i.e. not as a part of the text.
  • All documentation must be also sent as a hard copy.

Units of measurement

  • The data concerning length, height, mass and volume must be given in the metric system (meter, kilogram, litre) and their decimal multiples.
  • Temperature is given in the degrees of Centigrade, blood pressure in mg of mercury column.

Abbreviations and symbols

  • Use only common abbreviations.
  • Do not use abbreviations in the headings or summary.
  • Present the full term before the abbreviation is used in the text for the first time.

Submission of manuscript

The manuscript should be sent to the Editor with two copies. An accompanying letter must be attached to each manuscript and contain the following information:
  • 1. the statement that the manuscript was not submitted as a whole or even a part of it to another journal
  • 2. the statement that the contribution was approved by all authors
  • 3. number of pages (including Summary and References), attached Tables and Figures
  • 4. full name, address, telephone (and/or mobile phone) and e-mail address of the author to whom proofs should be sent.
The editor claims the right to recommend abbreviation of the manuscript, changes or corrections or to return, after the review process, the manuscript to the author for revision.
The author will receive the printed proofs for proofreading, which limits the changes to corrections of printing errors. It is impossible to add whole sentences.
The corrected proofs should be sent back within one week.

The manuscripts should be sent to the following address
